Zítra vstanu

Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea (Czech title: Zítra vstanu a opařím se čajem) is a 1977 Czechoslovak sci-fi crazy comedy, starring Petr Kostka, Jiří Sovák, Vladimír Menšík and Vlastimil Brodský. It contains scenes set to Hitler's headquarters.

General info[]

The plot focuses on Karel Bureš (Charlie in the English version) and Jan Bureš (John in the English version) , identical twin brothers working for a company that organizes time travels for tourists to various historical eras. After Karel's sudden death, Jan impersonates him to get closer to a stewardess he secretly loves. However, the passengers of his first flight are former Nazis led by Klaus Abard who want to present Hitler with a hydrogen bomb in order to change history. The spaceship lands in Nazi Germany and the Nazis visit Hitler in his bunker, however, instead of landing in 1944, they accidentally land in 1941 when the Germans are standing at the gates of Moscow. Hitler doesn't believe them they have "come to save the Reich" and has them executed. When Jan gets back to the present, he ends up creating a stable time loop in his attempt to make amends for his mistake.

Hitler is portrayed by František Vicena. Bormann, Goebbels, Himmler and Göring also appear. Klaus Abard is portrayed by Jiří Sovák, one of the most famous and respected Czech actors and comedians. The "Hitler" scene is probably the most prominent scene of the whole movie. The film is still popular in Czechia, was broadcasted in late 1970s or early 1980s in the UK and met with positive reactions (see the IMDb comments section).

Use in the Downfall parodies[]

The Hitler scenes were used by Smell of the Ice in the Hitler versus the "Tomorrow I Will Wake Up" Hitler video. In this parody, Hitler sends Fegelein back to 1941 to the TIWUaSMwT Hitler's bunker to "teach him the power of antics" because he does not want "any Czech impersonator to say he sucks balls". Fegelein comes in disguise and spoils Hitler's good mood, which results in Hitler ranting about his antics and bad jokes. Fegelein's last joke is a video of 1945 Germany in ruins and Nuremberg trials, which, at last, pisses the Czech Hitler off.

The scenes used in the parody adjust some names of the characters to unterganging purposes. Steinberger, Hitler's adjutant, is turned into Günsche. An unnamed SS-physician is named Schenck in the parody. The characters of Krebs and Burgdorf are also added. The scene also introduces the Fegel-Fantômas (frozen admiral Wolf in fact), a figurine with a turquoise face, which Fegelein and his sidekicks use for "provoking old pricks".
